Manage ads on the Shopify App Store

After you create an ad, you can make changes to it from your Partner Dashboard.

Most ad settings can be edited while the ad is running. Ad name, daily budget, device targeting, geotargeting, and search keywords can all be updated.

However, the app itself, its ad placement, and plan-based ad targeting can’t be edited after the fact. To make changes to these settings, stop the campaign and create a new one.

To edit an ad campaign's settings:

  1. Log in to your Partner Dashboard.
  2. Click Apps > App ads.
  3. In the ads index, click the campaign that you want to modify.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Make your updates to any available settings.
  6. Click Save.

For search ads, you can also edit your keywords directly from the campaign overview.

  1. Log in to your Partner Dashboard.
  2. Click Apps > App ads.
  3. To add new keywords, click + Keywords.
  4. To update a keyword cost-per-click bid, edit the amount in the Bid per click column, then click Save.
  5. To update a keyword's status, use the toggles in the Status column to set it to Active or Paused.
  6. To remove keywords from the campaign entirely, select them and click Actions > Remove keywords.

You can make bulk edits by checking more than one keyword, then selecting an option under Actions.

You can edit your cost-per-click bids at any time. It's a good idea to monitor ad performance for each campaign to ensure you’re bidding effectively.

You can keep track of your ads on the Ads page in your Partner Dashboard. Each ad has one of the following statuses:

  • Active - Your ad is being shown for searches on the Shopify App Store (as long as you’ve entered a winning keyword bid), and you're charged each time a merchant clicks on it.
  • Paused - Your ad isn't being shown on the Shopify App Store and you aren't being charged.
  • On hold - Your ad has been created, but there's a problem with the payment option: a payment option hasn't been added, there was a payment error, or your ad account has been suspended.
  • Stopped - Your ad isn’t being shown on the Shopify App Store because it has been stopped due to a change with your app’s status. Stopped ads can’t be reactivated.
  • Archived - Your ad is hidden from the Shopify App Store. Archived ads can be unarchived later.
  • Limited by budget - Your ad is out of budget or almost out of budget. When your budget is low, your ads will be shown less frequently on the Shopify App Store to avoid overspending. After your budget is used up, your ad won't be shown on the Shopify App Store until you increase your budget.
